Born (Theodore Joseph Horowitz) on March 31, 1960 in Bronx, New York. He began playing drums at 13 and moving on to the guitar soon after. His influences included Jimi Hendrix, Cream and other musicians/bands from the 1960s. He mainly played Blues and for a time in his 20s he also backed a PunkĀ Rock artist, Richard Hell. Winning the 1992 Blues Talent Search landed him a gig at the Long Beach Blues Festival and his dues paying went to a whole new level.
He released a few recordings on is own label, Laughing Bear, until signed with SONY/Okeh Records – the first release, “Booty and the Beast”, in 1995. After signing with Blind Pig Records in 2000, he released “How’d A White Boy Get the Blues?” in 2001. Since then, Popa Chubby has released numerous studio, live and previously unreleased material in the U.S. and Europe. “It’s A Mighty Hard Road” was released in 2020 and he continues touring throughout theĀ world.
